Getting Christmas back on track.
My partner blabbed to someone that they were getting one of my Christmas cards, so, on the way to find the duct tape to silence him, I started gluing together layers of Christmas paper and writing a calligraphy message to our friend receiving this card.
I’ve already remade half the mess that I had cleaned, again, so I may as well get stuck into card making. I have small boxes filled with layering papers, sentiments, images and ribbon, so I should be able to get some done easily. Perhaps, tomorrow, I’ll put a Christmas card making playlist on YouTube, and craft along, collecting ideas as I go.
I’ve been getting some good use out of my new watercolour set, but this means I haven’t really done anything towards Christmas. In fact, I ended up cleaning most of the card making supplies up. I just haven’t been in the mood with the heat and mess.
Apart from watercolour, I have been making tiny little potions made of glitter, food dye and dish soap. I’ve made at least twenty now, and am also making a stand for them, called my Apothecary, out of foam board and a cat food box. I have been trialling a paint program called Paint Tool SAI, that all the cool kids are using nowadays. It has a couple of features that aren’t in Photoshop, like a stabiliser, which makes the lines very smooth. Often, both programs are used in conjunction, to get the best results for art pieces, so I’d like to learn Paint Tool SAI.
Other than that, I’ve been absorbing inspiration from YouTube, Pinterest and bathroom tiles (a strange birdman with a hand puppet and balloon, no less.)
I’ve wanted to do some celebrity portraits for some practice, but I keep putting it off, as I know there’s other things I could use that time on. Then I just get bored, and put everything off, as I binge watch Netflix. Maybe I should have more monitors… Or more hands.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christ-mas.
I went shopping with the intention to get some nice baubles to decorate, but I saw the teeny bobbles and had to buy a bunch. They’ll probably be quicker and easier to decorate, anyway. I found a couple that were clear that are designed to hold pictures, so I can put my cats photos in them. I was going to get some glass ones, but they were already broken, and I doubt they’d have survived the bus trip home with me if they weren’t.
I also picked up cute Santa stickers, some curling ribbon and wrapping paper.
In the newsagents, I found some gorgeous magenta glitter glue that I have had my eye on, as well as a cheap travel watercolour set. I don’t usually travel with or without my paints, but sometimes I need something small without much setup when all my work areas are as messy as they are. I really need to take some time off crafting to clean before the hoarders TV crew turn up.
Lastly, I got some small bottles, with coloured sand and sequins, and enough double sided adhesive to get me through to winter.
So, if you don’t hear from me, I’ll be under the pile of beads and baubles.
I didn’t intend to make a lot today, but I sat down for a while, and this happened.
I’ve been wondering whether to continue making Christmas cards, or make everyone a hand decorated ornament each. It seems a bit quicker to do the ornaments, depending on how elaborate and detailed they are, but it might be a nice change to cards. Also, you can look at the ornaments each year, but it’s rare you see your Christmas cards a lot. It was always really fun putting up our personalised decorations on the tree when I was little, and thought it would be nice, despite not having any children in the family. But I am getting quite sick of card making at the moment.
I need to figure out soon, as I won’t have time to do both.
